A vacationer apparently fell to her death from a fourth-story balcony while on holiday at a Mexican resort last week.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was found dead Wednesday, with investigators reportedly determining the incident to be an accident.
“We have been informed that the authorities have determined that the tragic incident that recently occurred at Now® Jade Riviera Cancun was the result of an accident,” the resort’s general manager said in a statement, according to Fox 2 Now.
“We extend our sincere sympathy to family and friends of the deceased.”
The horrific incident occurred during a trip attended by multiple students and mothers from the St. Louis area.
“You could see the looks on people’s faces,” one of the students, Ava Scaglione, told the TV station. “It was truly heartbreaking. Again, you never know what to expect. In the snap of your fingers, something could be gone.”
The death of a United States citizen has been confirmed by the U.S. State Department.
