Jardel Jones, 21, was found guilty of conspiracy to murder and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon following a trial at Crown court on Monday, May 23.

Jones carried out the attack in June 2020 after travelling in a car with several others in a bid to find and kill a member of a rival gang.

After spotting the 17-year-old on a bike, Jones rushed out of the car and stabbed him in the back before getting back into the vehicle and driving off.

Officers and other emergency services attended the scene near Gilpin Square and the male was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries were not life threatening. Police launched an investigation following the stabbing but the victim was unwilling to cooperate.

Detective Sergeant Andy Rice from the Hackney Gangs Task Force said: “This was an extremely challenging investigation due to the fact that the victim refused to engage with the investigation.

“However, despite this, detectives from the Gangs Task Force North put together a significant cache of evidence which meant Jones has been held to account for this actions.
