Two journalists were killed in the Haitian commune of Cité-Soleil on Sunday while reporting on the death of a 17-year-old teenage girl, a victim of gangs, local authorities confirmed.
The two journalists, Feantzsen Charles and Tysson Lartigue, were killed and their bodies were later burned by armed criminals, the newspaper Realité Info reported.
According to preliminary information, the two victims were part of a group of 7 journalists working for digital media, who traveled to Cité-Soleil to conduct an interview with the parents of the 17-year-old girl killed by gunmen.
However, they were attacked on their way back from the Brooklyn borough, where the teenager’s parents live according to the newspaper.
“We are deeply shocked by the news of the murder of two young journalists: Tayson Latigue and Frantzsen Charles, yesterday, Sunday, in Cité-Soleil, in the exercise of their profession,” lamented Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry in a message on Twitter.
“We strongly condemn this barbaric act and send our heartfelt thoughts to the families of the victims and their colleagues,” he added.
